Everything cooks together in a single pan, making cleanup easy while allowing all of the ingredients to absorb the rich blend of herbs and spices. It’s an ideal dinner solution for busy weeknights when you want something nutritious without spending hours in the kitchen.

Another reason you’ll love this recipe is how satisfying it is. Lean turkey provides plenty of protein to help keep you full, while Brussels sprouts and carrots add fiber that supports digestion and promotes lasting energy. This combination makes it one of those high protein dinner recipes that satisfies cravings without feeling heavy.

It’s also extremely versatile. Whether you’re meal prepping lunches, feeding a family, or following a healthy eating plan, this skillet fits into almost any lifestyle. You can easily adjust the seasonings, add more vegetables, or serve it with your favorite grains for an even heartier meal while still enjoying the benefits of wholesome high protein foods.

Health Benefits of This Recipe

This skillet is packed with ingredients that provide impressive nutritional benefits. Lean ground turkey is an excellent source of complete protein, supplying essential amino acids that help repair muscles, support recovery after exercise, and promote overall body function. Protein also helps increase satiety, making it easier to manage hunger throughout the day.

Brussels sprouts contribute an abundance of fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and powerful antioxidants that support immune health and help reduce inflammation. They’re considered one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables you can include in your meals, making them an excellent addition to healthy high protein recipes.

The onions, garlic, carrots, and olive oil also play an important role in boosting the nutritional value of this dish. Garlic contains natural compounds associated with immune support, carrots provide beta-carotene for eye health, while olive oil contributes heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Together, these ingredients create a balanced meal that’s nourishing from every angle.

What Makes This Recipe High Protein

The primary protein source in this Ground Turkey and Brussel Sprouts Skillet is lean ground turkey. A single serving delivers approximately 23 grams of protein, making it an ideal option for anyone looking to increase their protein intake without consuming excessive calories. Lean turkey is naturally low in carbohydrates while providing essential nutrients like niacin, selenium, vitamin B6, and phosphorus.

Unlike many processed high protein meals, this recipe relies entirely on whole food ingredients. The protein comes naturally from fresh turkey rather than powders or supplements, making it suitable for anyone who prefers clean eating and minimally processed foods.

Because protein digests more slowly than carbohydrates, this meal helps promote longer-lasting fullness and steady energy levels. That’s one reason why high protein dinners like this are popular among people focused on weight management, muscle building, fitness nutrition, and healthy meal prep.

Tips & Variations

One of the easiest ways to customize this recipe is by adjusting the vegetables. While Brussels sprouts are the star ingredient, you can also include mushrooms, zucchini, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, or bell peppers depending on what you have available. These additions increase the nutritional value while adding new flavors and textures.

If you’re following a lower-carb lifestyle, this skillet already fits nicely into many meal plans thanks to its moderate carbohydrate content. You can enjoy it on its own or pair it with cauliflower rice for an even lighter meal. If you need additional carbohydrates for active lifestyles, serving it alongside brown rice, quinoa, or roasted sweet potatoes creates a balanced and satisfying dinner.

You can also experiment with different spice blends to keep the recipe exciting. Italian seasoning creates a Mediterranean flavor, smoked paprika adds depth, chili flakes bring heat, and fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro provide brightness. These small adjustments allow you to enjoy the same healthy base recipe with completely different flavor profiles throughout the week.

How to Store & Meal Prep

This Ground Turkey and Brussel Sprouts Skillet is one of the best high protein meal prep recipes because it stores exceptionally well. Once cooled completely, divide the skillet into individual airtight containers and refrigerate for up to four days. Having ready-to-eat portions available makes healthy eating much easier during busy workweeks.

For longer storage, freeze individual servings in freezer-safe containers or freezer bags for up to three months. Allow the meal to thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating for the best texture. Freezing individual portions also helps reduce food waste while providing convenient homemade meals whenever needed.

To reheat, simply warm the skillet in a pan over medium heat until heated through, adding a splash of water if needed to prevent drying out. You can also microwave individual portions for a quick lunch or dinner. The flavors often become even more developed after a day or two, making leftovers especially delicious.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

One common mistake is overcrowding the skillet while browning the turkey. When too much food is packed into the pan at once, the meat tends to steam instead of developing flavorful browning. Giving the turkey enough space allows it to cook evenly while enhancing its overall taste.

Another mistake is overcooking the Brussels sprouts. While they should become tender, cooking them for too long can cause them to lose their vibrant color and become mushy. Properly cooked Brussels sprouts maintain a pleasant texture while retaining more nutrients and natural sweetness.

Many people also underestimate the importance of seasoning throughout the cooking process. The blend of paprika, cumin, cinnamon, herbs, salt, and pepper works together to create balanced flavor. Proper seasoning ensures the lean turkey remains flavorful while complementing the natural sweetness of the vegetables without overpowering them.
